Fire and Rescue: The club makes an annual financial contribution to support the vital work of this local volunteer organization
Youth Services: Eight $1,000 annual scholarships are provided for Orange High School graduates and students at Germanna Community College. Additionally, opportunities for international travel by worthy students are supported financially. Financial assistance is also provided to many youth activities in this area, including scouting, sports, and social activities. For young children, the club provides support for the Early Learning Center in our neighborhood.
Health Assistance: The club provides financial assistance for research in the fight against both diabetes and cancer. A contribution is also made annually to a local hospice. Members man a blood pressure clinic twice a month at Lake of the Woods. The club maintains a supply of sick-room equipment, such as wheel chairs, hospital beds, etc. for loan, at no cost, to anyone in the area requiring such items. We also sponsor a biennial training session for teachers in our public schools on the dangers of drugs in our society. For several years, the club has sponsored and provided the instructors for the “55 Alive” Mature Driving Course offered at Lake of the Woods. This is a refresher course for drivers over 55 and completion of the course entitles the individual to a reduction in auto liability rates.
Environmental Concerns: Among environmental projects the club has supported is the Wildlife Center of Virginia and, working with the Lake of the Woods Garden Club, attempts to prevent erosion and beautify the area near the Clubhouse. Recently, the Club has “adopted” a stretch of Route 3, near Lake of the Woods, and the Environmental Committee insures that the area is kept clean.
Care for the Needy: The club provides financial support to local activities helping those in need, such as the Habitat for Humanity and Sheltering Arms - a homeless shelter in Orange. It also makes an annual contribution to support the Orange County Social Services program.
Food Pantry: The Wilderness Food Pantry, or Food Bank, established by the Club in 2000 and located on Route 20 at the Locust Grove Town Center, provides food for dozens of low-income families in Eastern Orange County.

Lions Clubs are family oriented and there are several special meetings a year when other members of the family and guests are invited to attend.
These include the annual Steak and Crab Feast in September, the Christmas Party in December, a party near Valentine’s Day, and the Charter Night Anniversary in June.
Additionally, the club sponsors several special trips for members and guests including, in recent years, attendance at professional baseball games, a trip to Atlantic City, and a day at a pari-mutuel track.
Our annual golf tournament, while a fund-raiser, is also an opportunity for members of the club to enjoy each other’s company as well as that of other residents of the Lake. There is also an annual picnic, held jointly with the Orange Lions Club, the Gordonsville Lions Club, and the Lake of the Woods Lioness Club.
